When I was in college, free t-shirts were the hot thing to give out. I have ones from the volleyball team, from the pizza places, from the bookstores, the bars, the student organizations and philanthropies, from races, from art festivals and more. I have a stack of shirts probably 20 think that I didn’t pay a dime for. Did I take them every opportunity I had? yes. Do I wear them even now, 10 years later? yes. Did they ever once influence a buying decision I made? No.
Where am I going with this? I have a simple question for you, what are your company’s free t-shirts? What do you give away that doesn’t get you anything back? Is it a $25,000 dollar flash website where a $500 one might be more effective? Is it a bulk discount that you wouldn’t lose customers if you didn’t offer? What about a new customer discount?
It’s worth giving some thought. Just cause you see the t-shirts downtown doesn’t mean its getting you more sales.
P.S. If you’re an Apple Fan-Boy. Find another blog. I may comment on the iPad sometimes soon, but I’ve had better things to do then follow all the reactions to it.
