Google+’s Unexpected, Ironic Weakness

Google+’s Unexpected, Ironic Weakness

I don’t have much to say today because I was at the baseball game last night and slept well past my normal 5am wakeup time, but I did notice something you might find amusing… how crappy the search is in Google+

Google has a history of being pretty good at search (mild understatement) but try finding a friend on Google+ with a common name.  Yesterday I tried to add Chris Allen, co-founder of Wawadoo, too my Google+ circles and ended up with pages and pages of search results and the Chris I was looking for was nowhere in the first few pages.  I tried adding things like his Twitter handle, the name of his company or the city he lives in to the end of the search, but those all came back with no results.  All of this is in spite of the fact that we likely have a couple friends in common.

I’m sure Google will fix this, but for the moment it’s an ironic weakness.
