As I purveyed the Sauerkraut news of the week (think there’s anyone else in the world who has a Google News Alert for Sauerkraut?), I happened to notice an interesting little story out of Pond Bank, Pennsylvania. For those unwilling to head over to Google Maps, it’s just off Lincoln Highway near Chambersburg. It turns out that some of the Pennsylvanian’s of German heritage believe there’s good luck in eating Sauerkraut on New Year’s Day and those who are interested can eat it for free at the Pond Bank Mennonite Church. For those who are unsure of its powers, it’s worth noting that the man interviewed in the article is “Pond Bank native, former Franklin County commisioner, and president of the Pond Bank Improvement Association” who is 89 years young.
On to the purpose of Sauerkraut Sundays… As I go through the week, I use Twitter to send out little updates and links. I realize that I do this quite a bit and that not all of you use Twitter, so with that in mind I’d like to take Sunday to do sort of a week in review. I’ve selected the most useful of my tweets from the last week and placed them in to the categories that I use in this blog.
