If you have made your way to this post, then you probably have linked here from my old blog location or followed your RSS reader. I appreciate your patience over the last few post-less months and I’m excited that you have stuck with me. I’ve made some big changes for the New Year and I’m excited about how much better the blog and (hopefully) the community around it will be moving forward. I’m going to take the rest of the post to outline those changes and then dive in with some new content tomorrow.
- The most obvious change is that the blog has moved. The new URL is www.JonathanCavell.com/wordpress. In 2009 I stopped blogging anonymously, but I’d like to take that to the next level . The two things I’m most passionate about, Pittsburgh and Technology Innovation, both require REAL people to stand up and make a difference. I intend to be one of those people. By clicking on the link to my site at the top of the blog, or just entering www.JonathanCavell.com ino your browser, you can find out more about me, locate me on social networking sites, and learn more about the projects I work on.
- The second change is that I’m moving to Word Press. If you’re not a blogger, this may not mean much to you. It will give me significantly more control over the content in and around my blog. Not just the posts, but the widgets, layouts, and pages that make up the entire blogging experience.
- Regularity of content is the third change. I’m intending to post each and every day in the New Year. Hopefully, this will be the first of many. I would like to arrive at a time of day that fits well so that I can be consistent with posting, but as I haven’t been blogging for a couple of months I don’t want to take on too much at one time. One of the main characteristics that separates the blogs I rely on from the ones I watch casually, is the consistency with which they appear in my reader. I hope to appear in yours consistently.
- The fourth change is the use of Disqus for comments. This should help to promote a community around this blog as well as foster a community across other blogs and social networks. If you haven’t used Disqus before, I encourage you to try out a comment or two in the near future. If you’re a twitter user, you can login to the comment engine that way. At Disqus.com you will be able to see all the comments you have made on this blog and others and any reactions to them.
- My final change is improvement in content. I’m looking to engage the services of an editor. I had a few peers review the blog over the last couple of months and suggest some improvements. They were unanimous in saying that, at times, my poor spelling and/or grammar became distracting. I realize that it is a privilege to have such great readers and I am determined to avoid that particular distraction in the New Year.
Enjoy the new format! Please, feel free to let me know where you see room for improvement. I’m always available at BurgherJon@gmail.com.
