D&D on the Microsoft Surface from CrunchGear on Vimeo.
Congratulations to the Surface Scapes Team at Carnegie Mellon on their mention on TechCrunch today. For those of you unfamiliar with the technology scene, TechCrunch is one of THE technology publications. The CMU team built an absolutely AMAZING version of Dungeons and Dragons, or as people in my industry call it D&D (for the record, I have never actually played the game but nerds everywhere are known for it). The CMU team played possibly the first ever cool game of D&D at Microsoft’s campus yesterday.
They built the game on a technology called Microsoft Surface which is akin to (but more powerful than) a table-top touch-screen computer. When you play, D&D it is not played on a “board”, it is played just on a table top. Consequently, the ability to have animation and such built in to the game play is very interesting. The art work is also quite remarkable, watch the video above to see a demo.
Keep up the good work CMU, always nice to see one of our Universities in the news.
